Mark Davison has joined the company as Service and Support Business Unit Manager. The appointment is the second time Mark has worked with us, and Mark is one of many colleagues who have re-joined the business after working elsewhere.
Mark first joined James Heal in 2010 as Service and Calibration Manager. Prior to this, he spent 23 years at Bradford-based Turnbridge Engineering after starting an engineering apprenticeship aged just 17. He left James Heal in 2014 to take up a post as Operations Manager for an engineering business in North Yorkshire. Overall, Mark has over 32 years’ experience in the manufacturing engineering sector, and is an asset to our Service division.
In his new role since re-joining James Heal, Mark will lead a dedicated team of specialist engineers in the service and support team, providing help and calibration to customers across the world.
When asked why he decided to re-join James Heal, Mark says:
“James Heal has been at the forefront of textile innovation for many years and is truly an international player. Innovation cannot be underestimated and is the main driver behind successfully competing on the world stage. This was a key factor in influencing my decision to return. I’m very proud to work for a UK manufacturing company which competes on a global scale.”
Added Mark: “James Heal embraces the ethos of working closely with customers on various levels, not just product sales. I believe this is key to retaining business and fostering long-term customer relationships, which is vital for manufacturing businesses if they are to survive and flourish in the face of tough international competition. James Heal is a company with a rich manufacturing heritage and this, combined with its values, make it a force to be reckoned with in its field. ”
We’re excited to welcome Mark back in a more strategically focussed role. He brings great knowledge and engineering expertise to the team and returns at an important time in the firm’s 147 year history as we look to open up and explore more global markets than ever before. James Heal has an enviable position in the market place but it’s vital to not stand still which is why we continue to invest to create a business that has a strong and profitable future in the global testing sector.”Amanda McLaren, Managing Director, James Heal
Textile specialist Guy Smithurst has been appointed Business Unit Manager in the firm’s Test Materials division.
Guy brings 30 years experience to his new role at James Heal, where he will lead a dedicated team of 11 in the Test Materials division. He will have responsibility for internal manufacturing, external weavers, quality assurance and control, sales and team development.
Prior to joining James Heal, Guy, who originally comes from Halifax, spent five years at Abraham Moon in Guiseley, one of the last remaining functioning vertical mills in the UK. Prior to this he had held various positions at textile and manufacturing firms across the region. During his career he has developed skill sets across three distinct manufacturing areas, design/technical, sales/business development and production/planning.
Commenting on his appointment, Guy said:
“I’m very excited to be joining James Heal, which has a first rate reputation as an engineering firm and as a leader in global innovation. Leading the talented team in delivering a wide range of specialist services that are needed for the important materials testing division of the business is a key part of the central business offering that James Heal provides to customers all over the world. That’s what attracted me to the role which is so varied it really is like running a business within a business. I’m relishing the challenge of adding to and enhancing the department for the entire team, thereby adding to the contribution we make as to James Heal as an integral business section and continue to exceed customer expectations.”
“Guy is a welcome addition to the team and brings a wealth of experience and technical expertise to the firm. This year has been a significant one for the business as we continue to showcase our innovative product range in markets around the world, some for the very first time. As we seek to underpin our position as a global market leader, it’s important that we are attracting the appropriate calibre of managerial staff with a strong strategic focus who can help reinforce this position. Guy’s appointment is the latest in a recent wave of investments that will not only help James Heal to retain its enviable position in the marketplace but continue to demonstrate that the business has a strong and profitable future in the global testing sector.”Amanda McLaren, Managing Director, James Heal
We are pleased to welcome Guy and Mark to the team and both are already settling into their new roles. Our Service & Support and Test Materials offerings are as important as the instruments we manufacture, which is why investment in the success of these divisions is so important.
