Who Are Schmidt?

Hans Schmidt & Co GmbH has been manufacturing tension meters for over 60 years. Today Schmidt Control Instruments are indispensible in production monitoring, quality control, automation and process engineering in a wide variety of industrial applications.

In 1948 Mr. Hans Schmidt (the company founder) started selling and distributing textile machinery. He became aware of the importance of monitoring the tension of yarns, and soon developed and constructed a 3-Roller Tension Meter which featured a measuring roller and two guiding rollers. This has become the hallmark of all SCHMIDT tension meters and remains unsurpassed in its efficiency even today.

In 1981, Hans Schmidt & Co GmbH introduced the first tension meter with a digital display to the market.

In 1996, Hans Schmidt & Co GmbH was the first tension meter manufacturer worldwide to receive certification according to the International Standards of ISO 9001. This award emphasises Hans Schmidt & Co GmbH continuous commitment to quality. The certification covers the quality management for design, development, production, installation and maintenance of the tension meters. The ISO 9000 series of International Standards is recognised by more than 100 countries around the world as an authoritative standard for quality assurance.
